Innovating  towards  sustainability:


The Zaniolo Lab for Environmental Data and Decisions  (ZEDD Lab) combines hydrology, systems modeling, and machine learning to promote resiliency and equity in water systems. 

​Our research is fueled by the pressing challenges confronting water systems, rooted in practical case studies, and powered by advances in computing and machine learning.

Climate change is a water crisis. 
We expect more droughts, floods, and water inequalities in the future
.

Water Resource Management.

We develop computational models to simulate water system dynamics integrating climate, hydrology, and socio-economic variables. This research improves our understanding of the threats and vulnerability facing our water systems, while developing engineering solutions for equitable water security, access, and preparedness for extreme events.

Machine Learning for Water Systems.

We develop Machine Learning and Data Mining techniques to handle large amounts of environmental data from multiple sources. With this research, we are able to make more accurate water resources models, more detailed risk analysis, more precise predictions, and better water management decisions.

Our research is rooted in real-world case studies and engages stakeholders and decision makers to develop decision support systems with practical applicability. We strive for inclusive approaches that integrate the stakeholders perspectives into the decision-making process.
