Veysel Yildiz
Postdoc

I hold a BS degree from Istanbul Technical University, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Currently, I am in the process of obtaining a PhD in Water Engineering from the University of Sheffield. Before starting my PhD studies at Sheffield University, I had the opportunity to work as a civil engineer and later as a section manager at The State Hydraulic Works-Turkey where I focused on the design and operation of hydropower plants, subsequently specializing in transboundary river management.
My research has been focused on the robust design and operation of hydropower plants. Over the course of my professional and academic journey, I have developed a deep understanding of water-energy systems and have conducted extensive research to address critical challenges in this field.
Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking and playing soccer.

Cameron Moore
Phd student

I graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Civil Engineering and Statistics. My research aims at understanding the impact of water rate structure on user affordability, water conservation, and utility financial performance for water utilities. I am particularly interested in integrating modern machine learning and numerical modeling to provide insight into these criteria in an uncertain future. My undergraduate research investigated the relationship between vegetation quality and hydrologic benefits of urban rain gardens to inform best practices for management. In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, cooking, and listening to music.

visiting phd student

I hold a BS degree in Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2017) and a Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the same university (2020). My thesis focused on the identification of opponents in multi-agent environments using reinforcement learning. I earned the Alliance4Tech certificate by participating in exchange programs at University College London and Technische Universität Berlin in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Currently, I have joined the EILab as a PhD candidate in Systems and Control at Politecnico di Milano under the supervision of Professor Castelletti, and I am an Affiliated Scientist at the RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE). My research, in collaboration with Consorzio dell’Adda, focuses on providing efficient and resilient real-time strategic management solutions for water resources systems under changing climate conditions. Outside of academia, I enjoy fencing and watching Formula 1.

Chenbo Shen
PHD student

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering from Tianjin University in China and a Master's degree from the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at Carnegie Mellon University. My research interest lies in integrating environmental knowledge with computational tools such as models, simulations, and machine learning to comprehend certain mechanisms, balance economic needs with environmental concerns, and formulate data-derived regulations. During my undergraduate studies, I conducted research on bioinformatic analysis of microbial communities in TPH-contaminated soil. Additionally, I had a research experience related to utilizing models to optimize solid waste management under CO2 control in Tianjin province. For my master's study, my research is related to designing optimization routes for contaminant screening on a robotic platform. Outside of studying, I like traveling, photography, and dancing, and I am good at playing table tennis and piano.
